STranger Danger: Treat/Retreat

FOR DOGS WHO ARE SHY, FEARFUL, REACTIVE, OR HOSTILE WITH UNFAMILIAR PEOPLE.

Does your dog hide from visitors and duck away from friendly hands—or explode into reactive barking and growling at strangers or guests? Treat/Retreat teaches real social skills to help these dogs comfortably navigate the human world. Using positive, force-free methods, your dog can learn that new humans aren’t so scary after all. Treat/Retreat helps dogs learn to calmly approach strangers and accept friendly interactions—and if they aren’t comfortable, walk away without intimidating outbursts.

Prerequisites: Instructor Permission; schedule an assessment HERE.

Dog-reactive dogs are welcome, since dogs work one at a time in the classroom and rest in the car between turns.

Dogs are expected to be secured inside of their vehicle between turns. When the weather is hot, there are many accessories you can use to keep cars cool and dogs comfortable: aluminet shade cloths, fans, cooling mats, open windows, cool water, etc.
