Nailing Nail Trims (4 Week Class)

Nail trims are a must for any dog! This course is designed to help you and your pup build confidence and comfort with regular nail care. Whether your dog is nervous around clippers or you're new to grooming, we’ll guide you step-by-step with positive reinforcement techniques, conditioning and desensitization strategies, and hands-on practice. By the end of the course, you’ll be on your way to stress-free nail trims!

Prerequisites: Manners 1, Puppy 2, or instructor permission. Contact heather@trailreadydog.com for permission.

What to bring:

  • Your dog! Preferably hungry (we suggest feeding half of their usual meal prior to class) and having been given a potty break prior to class.

  • A portable mat or bed for your dog to lie on.

  • Flat buckle collar or body harness. Please no prong collars or slip/choke collars.

  • 6 to 10 foot nylon leash. Please no flexi/retractable leashes.

  • Treat pouch. A fanny pack, climber’s chalk bag, or hardware apron will work well too!

  • Treats! At least 2 cups of tiny, pea-sized delicious treats. Your treats need to be more exciting than the environment, so hot dogs, ham, and cheese all work well. PLEASE USE NON-CRUMBLY TREATS. Dropped treats are very distracting for dogs training after you.

cooperative care SERIES

Cooperative Care is a 4-week program focused on making handling, grooming, and vet visits stress-free. Through a series of exercises designed to build trust and communication, your puppy or dog can learn to choose to participate in their own care. Dogs can benefit from this class regardless of age or prior experiences with handling and grooming.

Class will cover stationing for handling, nail maintenance, eye drops/ear drops, muzzle training, and blood draw prep. Time will be made during class to discuss adjacent care goals.

Location: Starting 8/1/23, this class will be held in the Kinship Studio, at 320 SW Mount Si Blvd Suite 108 North Bend, WA 98045.

Prerequisites: Dogs must be comfortable with other people and dogs from a distance of 15ft. Handlers and dogs must be comfortable using marker training with a clicker or other marker.

Some dogs should NOT join Cooperative Care class: If your dog barks, growls, or is aggressive to people or dogs, your dog is not yet eligible for Cooperative Care. Private lessons may be required to prepare your dog for group classes. Dogs who are not appropriate for group classes will be excused and no refund will be given. If you are in doubt, please contact us! heather@trailreadydog.com

What to bring:

  • Your dog! Preferably a little hungry, and having been given a potty break prior to class.

  • Flat buckle collar, martingale collar, head halter, front-attaching harness (ex. Freedom or Balance harnesses) or body harness. Please no prong collars or slip/choke collars.

  • 6 foot nylon or leather leash. Please no flexi/retractable leashes.

  • Treat pouch. A fanny pack, climber’s chalk bag, or hardware apron will work well too!

  • Treats! At least two cups (I know, it’s a lot!) of pea-sized delicious treats. Your treats need to outcompete the environment, so hot dogs, ham and cheese will all work well.

  • A mat for your dog to station on during exercises.

  • Any grooming or care tools specific to your dog such as nail clippers, dremel, brush, muzzle, ear or eye drops, and fake syringes.

  • Optional: A chew or stuffed kong for your dog to chew during downtimes.
