Introduction to Jumping
help your dog learn how to jump safely, cleanly, and efficiently
The Intro to Jumping course prepares you and your dog to more confidently take on sequencing in agility with full height or close to full height jumps. We will work through various 1 jump, short sequences, and jump grid exercises with an emphasis on good jumping form. The class provides an opportunity for dogs to solve the puzzle of how to move confidently between jumps in different configurations and at different distances.
What to bring:
-Your dog! Preferably a little hungry, and having been given a potty break prior to class.
-flat buckle collar, martingale collar, head halter, front-attaching harness (ex. Freedom or Balance harnesses) or body harness. Please no prong collars or slip/choke collars. Harnesses will be removed for agility work but can be worn to walk to the arena.
-6 foot nylon or leather leash. Please no flexi/retractable leashes.
-treat pouch. A fanny pack, climber’s chalk bag, or hardware apron will work well too!
-treats! At least two cups (I know, it’s a lot!) of pea-sized light-colored delicious treats. Your treats need to outcompete the environment, so hot dogs, ham and cheese will all work well.
-toys! Is your dog a ball fanatic or does she love to tug? Toys can take agility training to a whole new level!
-Payment: at the first class, please bring payment in the form of cash, check or venmo to Kinship Dog Training.
-Optional: a water bowl and water for your dog if you’d prefer not to share the communal bowls.
-Optional: a mat for your dog to rest on between exercises.
-Optional: a chew or stuffed kong for your dog to chew during downtimes.
Prerequisites are Agility Foundation or instructor approval. Dogs should also be over 1 year old.
