Certified Nose Work Instructor℠

CNWI is an advanced credential earned through the National Association of Canine Scent Work’s Instructor Certification Program. The program is dedicated specifically to teaching K9 Nose Work®, a dog-led scent detection activity inspired by professional detection work. Dogs are encouraged to search independently, solve problems, and build confidence through self-directed exploration.

The certification reflects advanced competency in:

  • Teaching foundational and advanced K9 Nose Work® skills

  • Developing dogs’ independent searching and problem-solving abilities

  • Helping handlers learn to observe and interpret their dogs’ search process

  • Designing progressive search challenges

  • Adapting instruction for dogs with varying temperaments, experience levels, and needs

  • Creating safe, enriching scent work experiences that support confidence and resilience

The program includes coursework, practical teaching experience, video review, and evaluation of both technical knowledge and instructional skill.
